about shay - founder & certified pilates instructor
Hi, I'm Shay, and I built Pilates Underground from the (under)ground up - literally. What started as a few reformers tucked into my basement has evolved into a full studio built on passion, persistence, and the belief that Pilates should be accessible, movement is medicine, and community is power.
On paper, I'm BASI-certified and have been teaching Pilates since 2020. But my story starts with pain - a car accident that left me sidelined from the activities I loved most. Backpacking, skiing, trail running. The kind of pain that makes every step, stretch, or turn a reminder of what you can't do anymore.
Years of recovery, frustration, and trail-and-error eventually led me to Pilates. And within a few months, I found something I hadn't felt in years: relief. Not just freedom from pain, but real strength.
That changed everything. I left my corporate career to help others find what I found: the connection, confidence, and capability that come from moving with purpose.
I built Pilates Underground to help as many people as possible: a space that's for passionate instructors to come together to help others just as much as it's for the people who show up to rise, rebuild, and reclaim what strength means for them.
Here we chase progress, not perfection. Because Pilates isn't a look - it's a life changer. And it's for every body.
about gretchen - certified pilates instructor
For over 20 years, Gretchen has helped people reclaim their health through movement. She brings her background in massage therapy, stretch methodology, and nervous system recovery to Pilates Underground's Private and Duet Sessions and Group Classes, offering a truly restorative, strengthening, and therapeutic approach to Pilates.
Her path to Pilates was personal. Long-term PTSD took a physical toll on her body, and she turned to intentional movement and breath-work to reconnect, rebuild, and heal.
Through Pilates, she found strength where there had been pain; alignment where there had been tension; and a renewed sense of possibility. Now, she helps others do the same. Gretchen specializes in:
- Private and Duet Pilates training
- Nervous system regulation through movement
- Corrective exercise and therapeutic Pilates
- Post-injury and surgical recovery support
- Restoring mobility, strength, and balance
Her work is grounded, compassionate, and deeply personalized - designed for those who want more than a workout. They want their body back. Her approach is powerful - and our clients feel it.
about erin - certified pilates instructor
Erin discovered Pilates after years of feeling disconnected from her body and dealing with injuries. Her first class - thanks to her grandma - sparked a journey of learning how to build awareness, stability, and a deeper connection through breath.
Erin began her training in 2017 and has been teaching full-time since 2019, leading teams and mentoring other Pilates instructors along the way.
She's passionate about continuous learning, meaningful connection, and helping others feel more at home in their bodies.
Besides the studio, you can find her exploring the outdoors, thrift shopping, or spending time with her partner and their toddler son.
about megan - certified pilates instructor
Megan has been teaching Pilates since 2018. Once an attorney who burned off the stress with high intensity step aerobics and spin classes, she discovered Pilates and its gentler, yet effective method of building strength through low-impact mind-body connection.
That discovery led to a complete career change and she has not looked back.
Megan moved with her family to Heber City in 2024, and she's excited to join the Pilates Underground team. She focuses on form and body alignment to help her students build strength, balance, and body awareness.
She believes Pilates, resistance training, purposeful movement, and meaningful connections are the key to active and healthy aging.
When not at the studio, you can find Megan at the front desk at the Wasatch Optimal Wellness (WOW) Clinic here in Heber.
